Rosters and Trading

Basic Roster Configuration

The basics are as follows:

Active Roster: 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, C, 1B/3B, 2B/SS, 5 OF, UTIL, 9 P

Additional Roster: 4 bench players and 1 IR slot

Scoring Categories: W, S, ERA, WHIP, K, R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG

Rotisserie style scoring is used.

Any list of undroppable players produced by the league host will be respected.

Position Eligibility

To be eligibile at a position, players must be credited with 20 starts at the position in the previous year, or 10 stats at the position in the current year.

All players must meet position eligibility requirement at a fielded position to play that position. All batters are eligible at DH. As a result, players who are primarily the DH on their team will only be eligible for the DH position unless they play the field enough to become eligible at a fielded position.

Other roster considerations

Please review the rules for our keeper system and minor leagues for more information about the major elements of franchise rosters are formed prior to the official draft.

Trading

Trade Protests

Protesting trades between other owners is frowned upon. The league philosophy is that owners are allowed to make their own decisions without interference from outside opinion.

On occasion, a trade is consummated that an owner may feel is imbalanced. In such a situation, the owner who disagrees with the trade is encouraged to use the bulletin board and/or league email list to voice his concern. If this occurs, the owners involved in the trade should then give a brief explanation of the logic and thought process they used when making the trade. This effort is made so that all owners can feel comfortable that the trade is being made with good intentions and that collusion is not an issue.

Due to the financial impact that trades may have, the league option to protest trades will remain off. Again, this feature should never be used and all other options have been exhausted and an owner still believes there is a clear presence of collusion or it is proven that an owner is in no way acting to benefit his franchise. If a majority of the league feels strongly enough that a trade should not be allowed, the league will intervene. This practice will apply to any off-season transactions as well.

Trade Execution

For purposes of subsequent trades and future considerations, only when a trade has been processed by the fantasy league shall the players in the trade be considered property of the new teams. Furthermore, any player involved in a pending transaction is not available for trade or consideration by any team until the trade has been processed. At that point any of the incoming players are available for selection as part of an existing consideration or new trade.

Two requests for the same player must be recognized in chronological order. The exercise of a consideration or the acceptance of a trade must be broadcast via email to the league. The timestamps on those email will be the sole factor in determining which transaction precedes the other. As such, a trade announcement email for a highly sought after player should be sent by the owners of the trade once it has been agreed upon as the official trade notification email can experience delays.

Future Considerations

Owners are encouraged to include future considerations in both the off-season and in-season trade negotiations. 'Future considerations are permitted as part of in-season trades.' Financial incentives are not permitted to be included as part of a trade. The following resources may be used when negotiating a trade:

  • Official Draft selections
  • Player swaps in the upcoming season
  • Keeper trades in future off-seasons

If a trade involves future considerations, the details of that agreement MUST be included as part of the email that announces the trade between the two owners. It is very important that the owners also announce when a previously existing option is activated. Without such an announcement, it could appear that they are announcing an unfair trade instead of reconciling a future consideration from a prior trade.

Each franchise involved in such a trade is liable for his commitment to the future consideration. Any owner who has trouble honoring his commitments will become ineligible for any financial reward and will be immediately removed from the league.

In all claims using future considerations, in order to be ruled as a valid claim, the owner of the consideration shall notify the entire league via email of the execution of the consideration, as well as the details of the consideration owed so there is no confusion on considerations that still remain. Failure to do so will prohibit the consideration from being valid.

Future Considerations Examples

The Duke franchise trades two outfielders to the Boston College franchise. In return, the Boston College franchise sends one pitcher and its tenth-round draft pick in the Official Draft to the Duke franchise. In this example, the future consideration is a tenth-round draft pick in the Official Draft. So during the Official Draft, the Boston College owner will use its tenth-round draft pick on whichever player the Duke owner wants. The two teams will then complete a post-draft trade so that the player can move from the Boston College roster to the Duke roster.

The Miami franchise has an extra closer and trades one of them to the Clemson franchise. In return, the Clemson franchise gives its second-round draft pick in the Supplemental Draft to the Miami franchise. In this example, the future consideration is a second-round draft pick in the Supplemental Draft. So during the Supplemental Draft, the Miami franchise will get four selections, with two in round two, while the Clemson franchise is left with only first and third-round picks.

The Wake Forest franchise has several players that are expendable and the Maryland franchise is in need of better talent. The Wake Forest franchise trades two players to the Maryland franchise. In return, the Maryland franchise agrees to allow the Wake Forest franchise to demand a one-for-one trade of any player on its roster that was not drafted within the first five rounds and is not in the top 5 spots at their position on the player rater at any point during the next season. In this example, the future consideration is a future trade option. This is a good example of how the options need to be explained so that owners do not protest trades that appear to be unbalanced.

The North Carolina franchise has more keepers than it can retain for the next season. It trades one player to the Virginia Tech franchise, which is in dire need of a keeper. In return, the Virginia Tech franchise agrees to send any one of its players to the North Carolina franchise at any time in one of the next three off-seasons. In this example, the future consideration is a future keeper.

The above four scenarios are examples of how the resources may be used in negotiations. This feature should make the in-season and off-season more fun, more active, and more strategic. Owners are encouraged to be creative in developing future considerations to aid in the negotiation process.
