Proposal
I propose that the section of LeagueManagement should be changed from:
Active Roster: 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, C, 1B/3B, 2B/SS, 5 OF, UTIL, 9 P
Additional Roster: 3 bench players and 1 IR slot
Scoring Categories: W, S, ERA, WHIP, K, R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG
to the following:
Active Roster: 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, C, 1B/3B, 2B/SS, 5 OF, DH, 9 P
Additional Roster: 4 bench players and 2 IR slots
Scoring Categories: W, S, ERA, WHIP, K, R, HR, RBI, SB, OBP
In addition, the official draft will be lengthened by one round to accomodate the extra bench slot.
Rationale
There are three changes, and each has their own rationale.
Changing to OBP from AVG
We discussed this topic last year, and there were several owners that spoke in favor of this substitution. I wish now to propose it as an actual change.
Adding one IR slot
We have discussed this issue, and I don't recall any objection to this change.
Adding one bench slot
We currently have 3 spots on the bench to support 22 active players, which is out of balance with the major leagues, where managers typically have more flexibility in determining who plays on any given day. We have discussed this issue as well, and many owners supported adding one additional bench slot.
This change had some lively discussion, mostly because I originally proposed two additional slots. I believe that the adoption of the minor league proposal means that only one additional bench slot is needed. Thus, I propose that change at this time.
